When Christians come together and act as a single unit, we too form a weapon that is terrible to behold. We become an incredibly powerful instrument for God to use in the world.
There is a Peanuts cartoon where Lucy demands that Linus change the TV channel, threatening him with her fist if he refuses to do so. Linus asks, “What makes you think you can walk in here and take over?” Lucy says, “These five fingers. Individually they’re nothing but when I curl them together like this, into a single unit, they form a weapon that is terrible to behold.” Linus then asks, “Which channel do you want?” And turning away, he looks down at his own fingers and says, “Why can’t you guys get organized like that?”
When Christians come together and act as a single unit, we too form a weapon that is terrible to behold. We become an incredibly powerful instrument for God to use in the world. That’s why the Scriptures talk so much about unity, and why Satan spends so much time trying to keep us apart.
Christians have a great opportunity to unite and be that powerful force for God this Thursday, May 1, from 9am-5pm. It is the “National Day of Prayer,” and the Village Church of Christ invites everyone to join us in offering petitions for the nation. Our shepherds and staff will be available to pray with you, or you can find a quiet place in the auditorium to pray privately. Either way, we will come together as one voice to God. We hope to see you there!
